Charting methodology
To make the ABT-C more reasonable, fair, and transparent, the methodology adopted shall be contextualised to the African music industry and shall consider the following paramaters/factors, with some weighted while other not:
- The Artist/Label/Management Agency submits a song per week. The submitted and listed song remains on the charts until it is overtaken by other songs.
- The submitted song shall be subjected to the ABT-C Hit/Song making checklist (barometer) (70%).
- Independent & professional Curators (Gender and Regional representation) shall evaluate the submitted weekly songs to screen out the list that shall be sent to the voters (in future, there is a possibility of automation of the screening process).
- The approved songs for the week shall be sent to the publicly invited listeners across Africa (on the ABT-C Website, App, and Mobile phone (SMS & USSD) to vote their best song for the week (15%).
- Number of streams and downloads per song on leading Digital Streaming Platforms, especially YouTube, Spotify, Anghami, and Shazam (15%).
